Fourteen years supplying the Delaware Valley

WiscoMed Supply Co. is an independent, owner-operated distributor based on Horseshoe Lane in Philadelphia. This is who we are, how we buy, and what we will and will not do.

The short version

Started in a leased bay. Still answering the phone ourselves.

Matthew Clayton spent nine years as a regional rep for two national medical distributors before starting WiscoMed in 2011. The frustration that pushed him out was simple: the accounts he liked working with — independent practices, small dental groups, county-run care homes — were exactly the accounts a national catalog is structured to under-serve.

The company opened with four customers and a single leased loading bay off Horseshoe Lane in Philadelphia. The first three years were a two-person operation: Matthew driving the route in the morning, doing purchasing in the afternoon. The first full-time warehouse hire came in 2014, the first van in 2015, and the current facility was fitted out in 2019.

The rules that were written on a whiteboard in 2011 have not changed. Answer the phone. Quote in writing. Never substitute a clinical product without asking. Never let a customer find out about a back-order from a tracking page.

How the company grew

2011 — Four accounts, one bay

Founded by Matthew Clayton. Standing orders for four independent family practices in Center City and West Philadelphia.

2014 — First warehouse hire

Inventory moves from spreadsheets to a proper stock system with lot and expiry capture on receipt.

2016 — Dental line added

Dental disposables and operatory consumables introduced after repeated requests from mixed-practice customers.

2018 — South Jersey routes

Camden, Cherry Hill and Moorestown added to the fixed weekly delivery schedule.

2019 — Horseshoe Lane fit-out

Current facility built out with climate-controlled storage and segregated quarantine racking for returns and recalls.

2020 — Allocation years

PPE allocation managed by account history rather than order size. We turned away speculative bulk buyers and kept existing clinics supplied.

2023 — Spend review programme

Quarterly line-item reviews formalised for accounts spending over $2,000 a month.

2026 — Delaware expansion

Wilmington and Newark, DE added to the freight schedule with two-day committed transit.

Operating principles

Six things we hold to

Sourced, never scraped

Every clinical SKU comes from an FDA-registered manufacturer or an authorised US importer. No grey-market lots, no unverifiable overseas brokers.

Written quotes only

Verbal pricing is how customers get surprised. Everything we quote arrives as a PDF with unit price, pack size, manufacturer and expiry policy.

One named contact

Your account manager does not rotate quarterly. If they are on leave, their cover already knows your par levels.

Bad news early

If a line is short or a lead time slips, you hear it the day we know, with an equivalent already priced and ready for your approval.

Sensible packaging

Route deliveries use returnable totes instead of single-use cartons. Freight orders are consolidated rather than split.

Transparent margins

We will tell you what a product costs us relative to what we charge when a customer asks. It has never lost us an account.

Leadership & ownership

Owner-operated, and not for sale

Matthew Clayton — Owner & Managing Director. Nine years in medical distribution sales before founding WiscoMed in 2011. Handles purchasing relationships and the largest accounts personally, and still covers a delivery route when someone is out.

WiscoMed has taken no outside investment and is not part of a buying group that dictates which manufacturers we can carry. That independence is the reason we can substitute across brands purely on clinical preference and price.
